Opinion on Sadao Suzuki's paper on the Nagoya City Cervical Cancer Immunization Survey
2018-06-11
Medwatcher Japan released an statement on June 11, 2018 titled "Opinion on Sadao Suzuki's paper on the Nagoya City Cervical Cancer Immunization Survey".
A paper by Professor Sadao Suzuki of Nagoya City University was published in the journal Papillomavirus Research in 2018. The paper is an analysis of the Nagoya City Cervical Cancer Immunization Survey, which was conducted by the city of Nagoya in 2015. Without understanding the problems with this paper, it has been cited as evidence to deny a causal relationship between the HPV vaccine and adverse reactions.
Therefore, we have released the above opinion pointing out five issues, including the following three points.
1 Unreasonable result of significantly lower incidence in the vaccinated group - fundamental flaw in the paper.
2 Despite the fact that the analysis shows that "the rate of hospital visits was significantly higher for 13 symptoms among those who were vaccinated", the paper makes an arbitrary interpretation of this result based on the prejudgment that there is probably no causal relationship between the HPV vaccine and any symptoms.
3 Conflict of interests in the journal published.
