We attended “ Selling Sickness Conference ” held on October 7-8, 2010 in Amsterdam, and made a poster presentation entitled “Distorted Drug Evaluation: IRESSA and Conflicts of Interest among Experts in Japan”.
Our presentation got the “Policy Award” as one of “Best Poster Award”.
This conference host is” Healthy Skepticism (Netherlands)” assisted by the Dutch Institute for Rational Use of Medicine and Healthy Skepticism (International). The sponsors are the Dutch Ministry of Health and the Dutch Health Care Inspectorate, the conference is co-sponsored by the World Health Organization, Regional Office for Europe.
Currently, “Disease Awareness Advertisement “ is increasing in Japan. This seems to be an aspect of global phenomenon so called of “Selling Sickness”, which is developed by pharmaceutical companies’ marketing strategy.
This conference provided 19 presentations, panel discussions, and 22 poster presentations, to analyze the situation and problems, to find solutions.
The great success of the conference has made a significant step forward to establish the international cooperation.
